Roger Grein Spirit of Philanthropy Recognition

Opportunity for Program Participants to Earn Recognition and Scholarship Funds

The application for 2024-2025 Roger Grein Spirit of Philanthropy Recognition is now available! The deadline is June 5, 2025.

The Founder of Magnified Giving, Mr. Roger Grein.

We developed Roger Grein Spirit of Philanthropy Recognition to honor students who embody the generous and philanthropic spirit of our founder, Mr. Roger Grein. Roger has led a life devoted to service and care for others, and we wish to honor him by celebrating rising young philanthropists in his name.

Roger Grein Spirit of Philanthropy Recognition is awarded to all students who can demonstrate that they engaged actively in service during the school year they participated in Magnified Giving, can describe how they grew and changed through the experience, and can articulate their plan for staying engaged in philanthropy and service.

While all students who meet the minimum threshold of 12 points out of 20 (more information below), will earn Roger Grein Spirit of Philanthropy Recognition, the highest scoring students in each age category will receive a special award and scholarship! The highest scoring honoree in grades 6-9 will receive the Roger Grein Rising Philanthropist Award and a $250 educational scholarship (for school tuition or fees). The highest scoring honoree in grades 10-12 will receive the Roger Grein Legacy Scholarship, a scholarship worth $2,500 toward post-secondary education, certification courses, personal development experiences, or other continuing education opportunities.

How to Apply

Youth in grades 6-12 who participated in Magnified Giving during the 2024-2025 school year are eligible to apply.

There are two components to your application: 1) Participant Application and 2) Program Facilitator Verification Form.

  1. Complete the Participant Application via Wufoo.

  2. After completing your application, you will receive a confirmation email with your responses. Email or print a copy of your application for your Magnified Giving program facilitator or teacher, and ask them to review your application and fill out the Program Facilitator Verification Form.

  3. It is your responsibility to follow-up with your program facilitator to ensure they submit this form. Your application is not complete until both the Participant Application and Program Facilitator Verification Form are submitted.

The Participant Application and Program Facilitator Verification form are due by June 5, 2025. Honorees and Award Winners will be notified by July 3, 2025.

Please note that you will not be able to save your work and return to the application, so you may wish to review the questions and prepare your responses beforehand. We will ask you to submit a headshot, provide a photo of you completing service, and answer three extended response questions:

  1. Describe how you actively engaged in service or a service project in partnership with a nonprofit organization. Describe your experience.

    • Please provide the name of your contact the organization you partnered with, and include their contact information.

  2. Reflect on your experience with Magnified Giving. How have you changed or grown since before you completed the program? Provide examples.

  3. How do you plan to maintain a philanthropic mindset and serve your community in the future? What next steps do you plan to take?

Please limit your responses for each question to 400 words or less.

Applications will be evaluated based on this rubric. To earn Roger Grein Spirit of Philanthropy Recognition, applicants must earn a score of 12 or higher, as determined by the Evaluation Committee. The highest scoring candidates in the each age category will receive the awards described above.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can students reapply?

  • Youth can apply for Roger Grein Spirit of Philanthropy recognition each school year that they participate in Magnified Giving. For example, if a student is in a club each year 9th-12th grade that completes Magnified Giving, they may apply each year. Youth are able to receive Roger Grein Spirit of Philanthropy Recognition multiple times, but they can only receive the Roger Grein Rising Philanthropist Award and Roger Grein Legacy Scholarship one time each.

Is a student still eligible to receive the Roger Grein Legacy Scholarship if they are not attending college?

  • Yes! The scholarship funding can be used for future learning and development, such as a class or certification course to learn a new skill, a mission trip, a financial literacy course, or an endeavor that challenges the recipient to grow. Magnified Giving is not able to write a check directly to a student or individual, so the funding would need to be used for opportunities where the funding can be disbursed directly to an organization, business, or institution. Additionally, the recipient has the option to donate the funds to a nonprofit organization of their choice.

How and when is the monetary award disbursed for the Roger Grein Rising Philanthropist Award and Roger Grein Legacy Scholarship?

  • The funding will be kept in an account earmarked for you until you notify Magnified Giving where the funding is to be disbursed. There is currently no limit on the amount of time that Magnified Giving is able to hold the funds until the recipient is ready to have the funding disbursed to their chosen institution or organization.

What if students complete the Magnified Giving program during the first semester?

  • Youth who complete the Magnified Giving program at any time during the current school year are eligible for Roger Grein Spirit of Philanthropy Recognition. The deadline remains the same, no matter how early in the school year the youth finished the process. Youth can fill out the Participant Application and ensure the Program Facilitator Verification Form is submitted as early as they wish once the application and form are opened.
