Nonprofit Partner Process Overview

We focus on educating children and teens in philanthropy because we want the youth in our community to see their own potential to bring about positive change in the world around them. When we plant this idea early on and teach them how to use their time, talents, and treasure, the youngest among us can spend the rest of their lives being change-makers!

We cannot fulfill our mission without the partnerships of local nonprofits in our communities. We give each Youth Philanthropy Program a $1,000 grant, and youth participants research and often visit and serve nonprofits, ultimately selecting an agency to receive the grant funding we entrust to them. Youth connect with organizations they’re interested in, and agencies have the chance to share about their mission and social cause. Youth become advocates for your organization, making a pitch to their group about why your agency should receive the grant.

While some organizations will be selected to receive grant funding, all nonprofits who connect with youth in our program will have the unique opportunity to share their mission with the next generation. We hope that all of our nonprofit partners take advantage of this chance to develop new advocates and volunteers, and well as future donors, board members, and staff members!

Your Commitment to the Program as a Nonprofit Partner

  • 1st Step - Complete the Registration Form - To be compliant with our processes and procedures each organization wishing to participate in the program and to be eligible to receive a grant must first provide a registration form to Magnified Giving. We will review the information provided, pull the EIN number and review your records through the Attorney Generals' website to verify your 501c3 status. Magnified Giving is ONLY able to partner with 501c3 tax-exempt organizations.

This information submitted will be visible to youth participating in this educational experience. It contains generic information but helps to introduce your organization and mission to youth; the information in this form launches their investigation. You only need to submit this form once, it does not need to be updated or replaced on a yearly basis. Trying to keep this page as up-to-date as possible is important; if staff, website, programming, and opportunities change either resubmit the registration form or send minor updates to riley@magnifiedgiving.org

The information you provide is typically the first introduction to your organization and its impact on the community so it’s important to keep in mind young people will be reviewing it so making it as “kid friendly” as possible is important.

Optional Step 2 - Submitting a Yearly Grant Application - A grant application provides youth with more in-depth information about your organization such as income, expenses, yearly impact, and how a grant would be utilized all information that will vary year after year. If you wish to automatically submit a grant application you are welcome to do so but again we don’t require this for you to be eligible to receive a grant. You may wait until a program requests a grant application is submitted.

  • We support public schools, private schools, homeschool groups, and local non-profit organizations supporting youth and young adult development. The primary grade levels that will be reaching out to learn more about your programming and mission are 6th - 12th grade.

  • After the youth have reviewed your registration form (Step 1) located on our Program Website under the Approved Non-profit page (link) they will typically reach out with a request to connect with you. During this phase of their research youth and/or programs might send you an email with questions, ask for a phone or virtual call, request a visit to your location for a tour or to volunteer, or you may be invited to speak to the group. The purpose of this connection is to support the youth in learning more about your organization and how you positively impact the community. The last phase of our programming is for the youth to advocate and persuade their peers to support the organization they feel is most deserving of the 1,000.00 grant so the connection they have with the organization will help develop their argument.

You may be contacted by several different programs, one program, or perhaps zero programs; each year it may vary. What makes Magnified Giving unique is that the youth are empowered to learn about social causes and non-profits of their choice we have no control over the path of the exercise. Also, just because a group of youth wish to connect with you does not automatically mean you will be selected to receive a grant however, we hope you still see the value in participating in this educational process. As youth are researching your organization they are also helping you to spread awareness, they typically present about the organization in front of a large number of youth or adults from the school and community. Regardless of receiving the grant hopefully you experience new volunteers and community donors.

  • Patience! Please keep in mind as you are being contacted that you will be working with youth between the ages of 10 to 19 years of age. Part of the educational process is for youth to learn soft skills such as written and oral communication, leadership, organization skills, and connecting with professionals in the community. For many youth this may be the very first time they are asked to tap into such skills and we all know this doesn’t come naturally, these skills all need to be refined and practiced. However, we do expect the youth to be respectful of your time, organized, and reasonable with their request. If you experience a challenge with any of our programs contacting you please be sure to contact Magnified Giving with as much information as possible to allow us to follow up with the program facilitator. Frequently Asked Questions

  • Our youth philanthropy education runs the length of a full school year. Some of the programs begin at the start of the school year and others may not begin their research process until after the Holiday Break.

  • If you experience challenges with programs please feel free to contact the Director of Programs, Alison Kaufman at alison@magnifiedgiving.org. The more information you are able to provide us the better we can help; the program and youth’s name and an explanation of the challenge would be great.

  • The point of contact for the Magnified Giving program does NOT have to be a staff member. If you have a trusted volunteer or board member looking for more engagement please allow them to be the primary contact to work directly. Appointing someone who has the time and interest in working with you would be a wonderful idea.

  • If you have been selected to receive a grant the program should contact you with the good news and share a date for an in-person or virtual grant-giving ceremony. This is the time for the students to explain why they selected your organization, and reflect on what it meant to them. In addition, you will have the chance to share your mission with other programs and adults attending the ceremony. The grant-giving ceremony is an important piece of the program and you are welcome to invite your donors or individuals benefiting from your services to attend.

  • Yes, you should expect to be contacted directly by youth who want to learn more about your organization and how you support the community. This may come in different ways based upon the program; email, phone call, virtual call, in-person site visit, volunteer time.

  • Honestly, the best way to approach this process is to keep the information basic and keep it at their level. Also if you are approached and welcoming is important. Appointing someone to be the point person for all Magnified Giving engagements is a great idea and does not have to be a staff member. A trusted volunteer or a Board Member seeking greater engagement and enjoying working with youth is a wonderful resource to access and takes if off of busy staff.

  • If you are not an independent fiscal agent we will need to receive notification from your organization about your standing. For example, if you are a program working with a larger community partner we need to receive the name and relationship of the connection. Send the necessary information to the Director of Programs, Alison Kaufman at alison@magnifiedgiving.org
